Lake Helen Little Pantry

What is a Little Free Pantry?
A Little Free Pantry holds non-perishable food items and toiletries, the Little Free Pantry project initiative is about a grassroots solution to immediate and local need. Whether a need for food or a need to give, the Little Free Pantry facilitates neighbors helping neighbors, building Community.

How the Little Free Pantries Work:

If you need an item in the pantry, take it. Likewise, if you feel the need to give to the pantry, please do!

Donating to Lake Helen little pantry:

Please place your donated pantry items inside the pantry cabinet. All food should be non-perishable and not expired.

LAKE HELEN’S LITTLE PANTRY works alongside our local food banks and ministries offering a low-barrier access point to food while helping fill the gaps in the system.

The City of Lake Helen currently has Little Free Pantry behind City Hall

Lake Helen’s little pantry concept was curated and introduced to the Lake Helen city commission by resident Nancy Weary who saw the need to offer a 24/7 non-judgmental access point to food, and fostering the cooperation of neighbors to address immediate and local needs surrounding food insecurity.

Mrs. Weary collaborated with Public Works Director Ricky Mullen for site placement and enlisted the talent of local resident artist, Kathleen Ivers who incorporated the rendering of an orange tree in full bloom – reminiscent of the founding years of Lake Helen where orange groves were very popular.

This project creates a model of “Food Commons”; food resources available to anyone regardless of need. The Lake Helen little pantry strives to create a platform for community enrichment where food is viewed as a shared resource through social means that strengthen communities.

More community resources:

Outside the Gates Food Pantry is a vital community service which assists individuals at risk of hunger and poverty due to economic and/or social distress in our service areas of Lake Helen and Cassadaga. This service to others – provided in the name of Christ – has become one of the most important ministries of the church and community. (opens in new window)
